About

Asbestos was used in building products until it was finally banned at the end of 1999, but is still widely found and kills around 5,000 people a year.

Our working lives have revolved around helping commercial, domestic & historic sites reduce the risks posed by asbestos. It was our route into wider Health & Safety consultancy, and we have extensive experience throughout the industry having worked in laboratories, undertaken surveys, carried out air monitoring and project managed large-scale removal works.

Our aim is to give better advise, a better product and a better service than the large consultancies out there.

What We Do

Asbestos surveys are legally required on any non-domestic premises built before 2000. Domestic properties can also be surveyed to understand the risk that you live with or before refurbishment works. Surveys can be split into three main categories:

  • Management surveys - To locate asbestos containing materials that are accessible during everyday use.

  • Refurbishment and/or demolition surveys - Required before any intrusive work is carried out. Carried out in line with the proposed scopes of works.

  • Reinspection surveys - Once known & presumed asbestos containing materials have been located, then there is a legal duty to manage them by monitoring their condition. This should be done by a competent person. Here at Monitor, we comply with all the requirements of being "competent" (although we like to think we're a lot better than that!)

Removal & Remediation

HSE guidance states it is strongly recommended that the person who visually assesses removal works is independently sourced and employed by the building owner or occupier, and not employed by the removal contractor. This puts the onus on the client to project manage removal projects by appointing removal contractors and another organisation to sign off the works. This is often a recipe for disaster, as not many people have the knowledge required to have the works done to a high standard.

At Monitor, we have the industry knowledge to organise & manage the removal process using tried & trusted professionals. We can talk you through your options and guide you through every step in the process. Once removals are complete you will be supplied with documentation showing that the works were completed safely and showing that the materials have been disposed of correctly.

Management & Compliance

Looking at what documentation is currently in place and creating an Asbestos Management Plan to ensure that you confirm with your legal duty to manage the risks associated with asbestos & keeping everyone safe by giving sensible options and real-world advice.

Bulk sampling of materials can also be done, but we will always include for a survey of the wider area, so you can make use of the expertise we have.
